White beech

Australia’s Forest Products Industry has an annual turnover of $20 billion and employs 120,000 people. Fifty percent of the sawn pine timber currently produced is sold at break-even or at a loss because it cannot meet structural requirements. High-resolution micro-CT enables full 3D analysis of complex wood structures in order to better understand what gives wood its strength, how to treat it and potentially how to produce a more consistent product.

This image shows an example of a wood image of a 2mm plug white beech taken with a 1 micron voxel size.
